Pure Gym Membership: Is It Worth It for Busy Mums and Couples?

If you’re wondering whether a Pure Gym membership is worth it, the short answer is yes, but only if it fits your stage of life.

In our house, my husband has the Pure Gym Premium membership at £28.99 per month. That gives him 24/7 access, access to multiple gyms nationwide and the option to bring a guest four times a month at no extra cost. I use those buddy passes instead of buying my own membership.

Pure Gym is the largest gym chain in the UK, with over 410 Pure Gym locations across the country, making it easy to find a location near home or work. As a work-from-home mum and business owner, I don’t want the pressure of my own gym membership. I don’t have time to drive there, work out, shower and still be home before the 3pm school run and dinner prep. I prefer home workouts in the morning when I have the most focus and energy, but having access to Pure Gym through the buddy system gives me the benefits of a gym membership without the guilt of not using it regularly.

Why We Chose a Pure Gym Membership

We chose Pure Gym membership for three simple reasons: flexible opening times, reasonable pricing and the buddy system.

Pure Gym is open 24 hours, which works well for shift workers and busy professionals. My husband goes three times a week after work. I join him on Sunday mornings at 9am or Saturday at 8am when it’s quieter.

The Premium membership at £28.99 per month includes:

  • Unrestricted 24/7 access

  • Access to multiple Pure Gym locations nationwide

  • Bring a guest four times a month

  • Free membership freeze

  • Sports water and massage chair access

The off-peak membership is from £17.99 per month.

How the Pure Gym Buddy Pass Works

With the Premium Pure Gym membership, you can bring a guest up to four times a month at no extra cost. That’s how I use it.

My husband books me in as his buddy. I receive a pin code. When we arrive, I enter the code into the wall panel and step into the secure entry pod. It works a bit like a one-person revolving door. Once the first door closes behind you, the second door opens and you walk into the gym.

For couples, the Pure Gym Premium membership can work well because the buddy pass allows one partner to bring the other along up to four times per month.

There’s no reception desk and very few staff. It’s mostly automated. You turn up, enter your code, and get on with your workout. For someone like me, that works well. I don’t want long conversations or waiting around. I just want to train and leave.

Is Pure Gym a Flexible Gym Membership?

Yes. That’s its biggest strength. Pure Gym is open 24 hours a day. If you work shifts or have unpredictable hours, that flexibility matters. For me, flexibility means I can choose quieter times. Sunday at 9am or Saturday at 8am feels calm. Weekday afternoons after work are busier. Because I only go up to four times a month, I don’t feel pressure. I get access to proper gym equipment without the guilt of paying for something I don’t use regularly. If I had my own membership, I know I would feel guilty every time I skipped a session. I’ve done that before. I even had a gym with a steam room, which I loved, but the time commitment was too much. Drive there. Work out. Steam. Shower. Drive home. Start dinner. Sort uniforms. It was too much for this stage of life. Pure Gym works because it’s simple, you go in, train and leave.

What the Gym Is Actually Like

The gym itself is large and open plan with a lot of equipment. There are plenty of cross trainers, bikes, machine weights and free weights. I usually use the cross trainer, bike and machine weights and then train with free weights alongside my husband. It was very clean. The equipment was in good condition and there was a lot of it. I particularly like the ladies-only section. It feels calmer and quieter than the main gym floor. If you feel self-conscious, that space makes a difference.

The changing rooms are large and there are plenty of lockers. You can buy a padlock from the vending machine for £6.99 and use it permanently.

There aren’t many staff visible. If you prefer lots of guidance and interaction, that might not suit you, but if you’re happy being independent, it works well.

Would I send my teenage daughter there alone? Yes. There were lots of young women training and the women’s section felt safe and calm.

Who Pure Gym Membership Is Perfect For

Pure Gym membership is great for:

  • Shift workers who need 24/7 access

  • Busy professionals who want flexible training times

  • Couples who want to train together

  • People who want an affordable gym membership without luxury extras

  • Anyone who just wants to work out and leave

  • It’s also a practical Christmas or birthday gift if your partner genuinely enjoys training.

Who It’s Not For

Pure Gym is not a spa or leisure centre. There’s no pool. No steam room. No luxury extras beyond the basics in the Premium tier. It can be loud and busy at peak times. It’s open plan. If that makes you uncomfortable, stick to quieter hours or the ladies-only section. If I were at a different stage of life, I might choose a gym with spa facilities. Right now, Pure Gym is for working out only.

Is Pure Gym Membership Worth It?

For my husband, yes. He goes three times a week and uses it properly.

For me, it works because of the buddy system. I get the benefits of a flexible gym membership without paying for my own.

Four sessions a month is enough for me. The rest of the time, I prefer my quiet home workouts in the morning before client work starts. At this stage of life, that balance works.

If you are a busy mum who doesn’t want the pressure of a full membership but still wants occasional access, the Premium Pure Gym membership with buddy passes is a practical and affordable solution.

Should You Get a Pure Gym Membership?

If you want a flexible gym membership that fits around real life, Pure Gym is worth considering. It’s affordable. It’s open 24 hours. It gives you proper equipment without luxury extras driving up the price and if you choose the Premium option, the buddy pass makes it even better value for couples.

For us, it works because it fits our stage of life. My husband uses it consistently. I join him up to four times a month without paying for my own membership. No guilt. No wasted money. No pressure.

If you’re thinking about joining, the best thing to do is check your local Pure Gym for current pricing and peak times. Prices vary slightly by location and you can compare Off-Peak, Core and Premium memberships before you decide.
